Metocean Services International (Pty) Ltd (MSI) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a multi-location metocean measurement programme in Gabon for Total. Although MSI is already working with Total in Indonesia through our partners Pageo, this contract is the first in Gabon for the company.
For this project 7 sets of equipment have been installed, these being 3 bottom frames fitted with ADCPs, 1 conventional mooring, 1 wave buoy and 2 weather stations (one onshore and one on an offshore platform). Mobilisation was conducted from the vessel MV Annelies and occurred over a period of 3 days in September 2008.
Servicing on the equipment is scheduled for every 3 months, and data from the wave buoy is being automatically transmitted to MSI’s data centre in their offices in Cape Town for validation. The combination of different moorings, equipment and onshore / offshore locations make this project interesting although MSI has extensive experience with these configurations.
The objective of the study is to provide Total with a reliable metocean data base so as to facilitate safe coastal protection design for Cape Lopez. Additionally, the study will provide the basis for derivation of accurate and consistent metocean design criteria for extreme and fatigue studies which may be carried out during Total’s future engineering development of the area.
