Water Level Recorders / Tide Gauges
The following is a summary of the recorders / gauges that are available from RBR Ltd.  Full details of the extensive range are available at www.rbr-global.com or by clicking on the hyperlinked model number.

Submersible Tide Gauge (TGR-2050)

TGR-2050
Submersible Tide Gauge

The TGR-2050 is a self-contained, submersible  temperature and depth logger.  It has a built-in averaging function to eliminate interference from wave action.  It can be mounted on the sea or harbour floor, or fastened to an existing structure or mooring line (mooring clamps optional).

Atmospheric Pressure Compensated Tide Gauge (TGR-1050HT)

TGR-1050 HT
Recording Tide Gauge

The TGR-1050 is a purpose designed recording tide gauge for long term monitoring of tidal activity in unattended locations. The instrument may store up to 2,400,000 readings on 8MB memory and has battery capacity to run unattended for five years. It may be connected by direct RS232 or RS485 line, VHF/UHF radio telemetry or CDMA/GSM modem to the office or base station. It may also be programmed to operate autonomously, and it is able to run in this way for up to five years on internal batteries.

Tide measurement is achieved by averaging pressure data, sampled at a rate of 4Hz. The sample period and the length of the averaging burst are programmable.

The RBR TGR-1050 HT is housed within a rugged extruded aluminium housing rated to IP 65.

Tide and Wave Recorder (TWR-2050)

Model TWR-2050
Submersible Tide & Wave Recorder

The TWR-2050 is a self-contained, submersible logger, designed to measure tide and wave data. In addition to averaging capability for tide measurement, the TWR-2050 is capable of measuring bursts of pressure data for wave analysis. The RBR Tide/Wave recorder is very accurate and small (265mm x 38mm OD), and can be mounted on the sea or harbour floor, fastened to an existing structure, or attached to a mooring line.

Averaging time is user-selectable from 10 seconds to 9 hours. Burst rates can be 1, 2, or 4Hz. Wave sampling is achieved by taking 512, 1024, or 2048 samples at the selected burst rate. The TWR-2050 can be configured to trigger burst data collection at fixed times.

The temperature channel of the TWR-2050 is calibrated to an accuracy of ±0.002°C (ITS-90), with typical annual drift of better than 0.002°C/year. The depth channel is calibrated to an accuracy of 0.05%fs. Calibration constants are stored in the logger and recalibration is possible by the end-user.

The RBR Windows software package has a straight-forward logger set up display menu, which includes synchronizing the logger to the PC clock, setting the sampling period, setting the averaging burst length, and start and stop logging date selection by means of a graphical calendar. Data can also be saved to a .mat file for import into Matlab® for further analysis and display.

Capacitance Wave Height Gauge (WG-50)

[WG-50 -- 16cm x 11cm x 8.5cm

Model WG-50
Wave Gauge / Capacitance Meter

The WG-50 is used to measure wave heights to an accuracy of 0.4%. This capacitance wave meter has a linear response and is perfect for hydraulics laboratories with either small or large wave tanks. The WG-50's all-weather construction also make it useful for measuring in situ waves, harbour tides and coastal wash.

A number of probe lengths can be used. Probes as short as 10cm have been made for use in wave tanks and flumes.  Lengths up to 20m have been used to measure the extent of waves mounting a beach.  Contact RBR with your probe length requirements. The WG-50 can also operate in a master-slave setup so that interference can be avoided when two or more probes may be positioned close together (closer than 1m). The probe needs to be attached to something fixed like the top, side or catwalk of a water tank, or the side of a pier. If the water depth is not too great, then a stake can be driven into the bottom of a river or dam and the probe attached to it.

Released in 1998, the WG-50 consists of a weatherproof control unit (shown; 160mm x 110mm x 85mm), a BNC cable 30cm to 100cm in length, and a wave probe. The Model WG-10 was originally designed by the National Water Research Institute of Environment Canada and is now manufactured under licence by RBR Ltd.
