Data Collection

DATA COLLECTION
Using industry-standard state of the art equipment, MSI measures a range of oceanographic and meteorological parameters, all of which are important both for design and operational purposes. Oceanographic measurements are made in water depths ranging from coastal areas to full ocean depth. Meteorological measurements are made both onshore and offshore either as stand-alone systems or offshore as part of metocean buoys.

Oceanographic Data
Measured parameters typically include:

  • Waves
  • Currents (single-point & profiles)
  • Tides / Water level

Meteorological Data

Measured parameters typically include:

  • Wind speed & direction
  • Air temperature
  • Air pressure
  • Relative humidity
  • Rainfall
  • Visibility

Equipment

MSI have significant experience with a wide range of

  • RBR Ltd
  • RD Instruments
  • Aanderaa
  • Nortek
  • Vaisala
  • Seabird
  • Sonardyne

Other Data
In addition to the above parameters, other data is measured either by additional sensors on deployed instruments or via profilers. These include:

  • Temperature
  • Conductivity / salinity
  • Dissolved oxygen
  • pH
  • Turbidity

Data Transfer

Where data is required in real-time, this can be achieved either by GSM, radio or satellite (Orbcomm, Argos etc.) telemetry systems, depending on the geographical location of the equipment and distance from shore.
